AMD Radeon HD 6000 series a new sort of refresh

Graphics chip manufacturers tend to make minor tweaks to their previous generation’s design and roll it out as a whole new product lineup which allows them to stretch their research and development efforts over several years and gives them some time to work on their next architecture. AMD’s upcoming Radeon HD 6000 series seems to be a bit of a different rehash, at least as far as the 6800 is concerned, as they’ve removed some processing elements which would normally kill a chip’s performance but are rumored to have improved efficiency in other parts of the hardware which should keep any performance losses to a minimum or may improve it in some cases.

Some Initial (and mostly unsubstantiated) Thoughts on AMD’s upcoming HD 6800 Cards @ PC Perspective
