AMD Radeon HD 6850 and 6870 seem familiar

Those expecting miracles from the AMD Radeon HD 6850 and 6870 graphics cards should instead hold on to their hopes for the 6900 series. Everyone else has a lot to look forward to with AMD’s latest chip refresh which takes the tried and true design of last year’s ground breaking 5800 series and does some of their voodoo magic which removes quite a few transistors and, in its place, tweaks other portions of its chip to improve efficiency tremendously. What does this all mean? Smaller cooler running chips that perform just as well as last year’s cards at a lower price range. If their chip tweaks scale up to the higher end 6900 series models (expect to see dual GPU cards as well) we’re in for a real treat moving forward.
