ATI Plans Stream Computing

The Register has some details and speculation on ATI’s planned press event/launch, on September 29th, for its FireStream processing unit. The card will supposedly use one of their current high-end GPUs to do all manner of calculations which could be useful for many fields where tremendous number crunching capability is required.
