You may have remembered Apple’s iMac line refresh well AMD’s graphics division has finally gotten around to exclaiming how happy they are to be in the company’s new machines. Apparently they’re overjoyed that their ATI Radeon HD 5000 series has made it into their computers I mean why wouldn’t they be since their chips are more than capable of powering the GPU centric nature of Adobe’s Creative Suite so you creative types will have good reason to seek out an upgrade while its 3D graphics prowess makes it a fine accompaniment to Steam’s 3D gaming delivery platform.

A little graphics explanation. Most graphics cards are made up of many computing units (cores) all working together to process information. In general the more cores there are the faster a product is and with modern graphics cards there’s almost a linear performance improvement the more processing cores there are. The breakdown is as follows:

Apple Mac Pro workstation photoApple Mac Pro
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB – 1600 Stream Cores
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB – 800 Stream Cores

ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB – 720 Stream Cores

Apple iMac 27-inch dual-core model:
ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB – 400 Stream Cores
