Ice Cream Sandwich unwraps its tasty innards

The combined efforts of Google and Samsung will be bringing Google’s open source Android operating system kicking and screaming into the future with their upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich update… or version 4.0 as it were. The update is designed to function on both tablets and smart phones so there’s bound to be great interest, especially among developers, on getting a common platform from which to build product lines from.

As far as the updated OS is concerned there are improvements all over the place including responsiveness, performance, multitasking, and an improved user interface which doesn’t require any hardware buttons in order to work your way around the OS, although they’ll probably be included on future hardware designs anyway.

As far as devices designed with the update in mind you’re going to have to wait a few months while handset makers figure out what they want to do with it but we’re hoping they’ll get to work on getting it on to their existing products quickly.
