NvidiaIt’s tough times for Nvidia. They are expected to turn in underwhelming financials any minute now after suffering a scathing defective laptop graphics chip debacle. Now, they can’t seem to shake rumors that they will be kissing the chipset business good-bye in 2009.

Nvidia shares fell Monday after a Pacific Crest analyst issued a negative report on the company’s prospects. In the report, the analyst said “our checks confirm” that Nvidia will exit the chipset business next year.

Nvidia chipsets–sometimes referred to as MCPs–serve as supporting silicon for the company’s graphics processors. In the past, Nvidia has denied that it will exit the chipset business.

One bright spot is another rumor, that prototype of soon-to-be-released Macbooks are carrying their silicon. Let’s see if Apple’s fortunes smile on Nvidia.
